Bitter Black Beans

This week’s picture prompt. I remember reading that next to oil coffee is the most consumed commodity, which made me connect the thoughts of how we build machines thanks to coffee powering our brains, and in turn the machines we build help us run the world better. Also, it’s a poem, I never write poems.

Bitter black beans ground to a pulp
Bitter black beans downed in a single gulp

Second next to oil
We consume coffee beans grown from the soil
As the crude sludge burns through our machines
The smooth bean juice runs in our veins

The world is run by fluids jet-black
From coffee giving our energy a simple hack
We use its gifts to get through the day
So that we can make machines to ensure our pay

Bitter black beans ground to a pulp
Bitter black beans give us hope
